Luz is located to the extreme southwest (SW) of Lagos. The municipality originated in the development of the Population of Nossa Senhora da Luz, named after the Church of Nossa Senhora da Luz. Its origin is strongly linked to the strong presence of fishermen in the coastal Western Algarve.
